Finally, Gaia Wicca is a religion - a way of approaching that Ultimate Reality of the universe that some call "God" and we call simply "Divine." As followers of the Craft of the Wise, we approach that Reality as beings that are as we are - male and female. As the book of Genesis in the Christian bible says, "And God made people in God’s image; male and female God created them." The God and Goddess, in their many aspects, are the symbols through which we reach towards the Divine. And we are aware that they are more than just symbols, for when a Priest or Priestess performs a Drawing Down of an aspect of the Divine into him/herself, that person knows that s/he has been joined by a loving, but separate, being.
Our rituals, our magick, our stories, and our lives are played out in the light of our relationship to the God and Goddess. Every Sabbat celebrates some passage or period in the mythic lives of the Goddess and God; every Esbat celebrates the love and strength of the Goddess as symbolized by the moon; and every individual act of celebration, of magickal working, of friendship, and of loving is seen as a celebration of the relationship between ourselves and the Divine in the forms of the Lady and the Lord.
Make no mistake, though: our worship is not the servile adoration that some claim to be the only true way to relate to the Divine. Our rituals are celebrations: celebrations of the Divine ones, of ourselves, and of the worth-ship of all that is around us. By celebrating "the green hills of Earth" we celebrate the ones from whom those hills came. By celebrating our own relationships as holy, we also celebrate the relationship between the Goddess and the God, and between those Divine ones and ourselves. We understand that each of us has a spark of that Divine within us, so that whenever one of us comforts, or consoles, or laughs with, or hugs, or cries with another, it is the God or the Goddess doing it through us, as much as it is us doing it.
Because we see the stories of the God and Goddess as ways to allow our minds to comprehend the Ultimate Reality of the universal Divine, we associate the Divine with the eastern direction and the element of air, the element of mind.
